چکیده

We consider Friedmann-Lemâıtre-Robertson-Walker cosmological models in the framework of general scalar-tensor theories of gravity (STG) with arbitrary coupling functions, set in the Jordan frame. First we describe the general properties of the phase space in the case of barotropic matter fluid and scalar field potential for any spatial curvature (flat, spherical, hyperbolic). Then we address the question under which conditions epochs of accelerated and super-accelerated expansion are possible in STG. For flat models filled with dust matter (and vanishing potential) we give a necessary condition on the coupling function of the scalar field which must be satisfied to allow acceleration and super-acceleration. This is illustrated by a specific example.

Bulk viscous string cosmological models in Saez – Ballester theory of gravitation

Spatially homogeneous Bianchi type-II, VIII and IX anisotropic, as well as isotropic cosmological models can be obtained in a scalar tensor theory of gravitation proposed by Saez and Ballester (1986) when the source for energy momentum tensor is a bulk viscous fluid containing one-dimensional cosmic strings. All the models obtained and presented here are expanding, non-rotating and accelerating...

Cosmological models in scalar tensor theories of gravity and observations: a class of general solutions

Aims. To study cosmological models in scalar tensor theories of gravity with power law potentials as models of an accelerating universe. Methods. We consider cosmological models in scalar tensor theories of gravity that describe an accelerating universe, and we study a family of inverse power law potentials, for which exact solutions of the Einstein equations are known. We also compare theoreti...

Self-accelerating solutions of scalar–tensor gravity

Scalar–tensor gravity is the simplest and best understood modification of general relativity, consisting of a real scalar field coupled directly to the Ricci scalar curvature. Models of this type have self-accelerating solutions. In an example inspired by string dilaton couplings, scalar–tensor gravity coupled to ordinary matter exhibits a de Sitter type expansion, even in the presence of a neg...

On the Asymptotic Behaviour of Cosmological Models in Scalar-Tensor Theories of Gravity

We study the qualitative properties of cosmological models in scalartensor theories of gravity by exploiting the formal equivalence of these theories with general relativity minimally coupled to a scalar field under a conformal transformation and field redefinition. In particular, we investigate the asymptotic behaviour of spatially homogeneous cosmological models in a class of scalar-tensor th...

Stability of Palatini-f(R) cosmology

The evolution of linear cosmological perturbations in modified theories of gravity is investigated assuming the Palatini formalism. It has been discussed about the stability problem in this model based on the equivalence between f(R) gravity and the scalar tensor theory. However, we study this problem in the physical frame where the matter is minimally coupled. In general, the stability of the ...
